SHAH ALAM: Police are investigating possible elements of negligence and sabotage following a roller coaster accident at Sunway Lagoon on Aug 22.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the investigation was also being carried out in collaboration with several other agencies, including the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department and the Selangor Occupational Safety and Health Department.
“Police investigations are being conducted to determine whether there were elements of negligence or sabotage.
“We are collaborating with the relevant agencies and holding discussions. Investigations are being carried out according to each agency’s jurisdiction and expertise,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters here on Thursday (Aug 27).
Comm Shazeli said the investigations were aimed at determining the actual cause of the incident.
He added that the roller coaster involved had been temporarily shut down pending the completion of investigations.
“Statements have been recorded from the roller coaster operators, theme park staff, victims and others. However, we are still working to obtain several pieces of information related to the case,” he said.
Comm Shazeli said two victims were still receiving treatment at hospital, although their injuries were not serious.
“The other victims have either been discharged or received outpatient treatment,” he added.
In the 9pm incident on Aug 22, 22 roller coaster riders comprising local and foreign tourists aged between 11 and 44 years old were on the ride when the accident occurred.
Ten people were injured and taken to medical centres around Subang Jaya for treatment.
