YONG PENG: Barisan Nasional has retained the Yong Peng seat, with its candidate Ling Tian Soon securing victory.

Ling won with 13,630 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan’s Yong Hui Yi, who garnered 9,027 votes, giving him a majority of 4,603 votes.

Ling arrived at the Yong Peng Sports Hall with his wife, Chen Ting Ting, at about 7.55pm to cheers from jubilant supporters.

Addressing the crowd, Ling thanked voters and his campaign machinery for their support, describing the election as a hard-fought contest.

“Winning this election was not easy. Many national leaders, ministers and deputy ministers came to campaign in Yong Peng, but we managed to defend the seat,” he said.

Ling credited the victory to the trust and support of local voters.

“You know who has worked hard and who has truly helped Yong Peng. Without the people of Yong Peng, I would not be standing here today,” he said.

Ling pledged to continue serving the constituency by remaining accessible to residents and working closely with the community.

“I will continue to serve diligently, stay close to the people and keep going to the ground. This is our hometown and our home. Let us continue to protect and develop Yong Peng together,” he said.

At one point, Ling appeared emotional as he thanked the campaign workers who had stood by him throughout the campaign.

“I know many of you volunteered without expecting anything in return. Thank you for your sincere support and for helping us achieve this victory in Yong Peng,” he said.

In the 2022 state election, Ling won the seat with 9,870 votes, defeating Pakatan’s Tee Boon Tsong and Perikatan Nasional’s Yong Fui Ling by a majority of 2,741 votes.
