JOHOR BARU: A total of 67.44% or 1,809,185 out of more than 2.6 million voters cast their ballots in the 16th Johor election.
The Election Commission (EC), in a Facebook post, said the Sri Medan constituency recorded the highest voter turnout at 77.2%, followed by Semarang (76.8%) and Sedili (74.3%).
The three constituencies with the lowest voter turnout were Bekok at 58.9%, Stulang (60.5%) and Perling (60.6%), Bernama reported.
For comparison, the voter turnout for the 15th Johor election stood at 53.13%, or 1,367,909 of the more than 2.57 million registered voters.
A total of 1,076 polling centres across the state closed at 6pm yesterday.
Balai Raya Pulau Besar was the first polling centre to close.
Tenggaroh state constituency returning officer Jamil Hasni Abdullah said the island centre, which had one channel and 32 registered voters, closed at 11am.
“Other island polling centres at Balai Raya Pulau Aur and SK Pulau Pemanggil closed at noon, while Balai Raya Pulau Sibu and SK Pulau Tinggi closed at 2pm,” he added.
All polling centres across the five islands cater to 690 registered voters.
