JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional’s landslide victory in Johor is a mandate to work harder for the people, it is not a reason for arrogance, says caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Pledging to serve Johoreans even better, Onn Hafiz said the election result was a responsibility that Barisan must honour through continued service and dedication.
“Tonight, Barisan has created history that makes us all proud. But this is never a reason to be arrogant or beat our chests.
“This victory is a mandate for us to continue serving the people and keep fighting for Bangsa Johor,” he said at the Johor Umno liaison office last night.
Onn Hafiz also expressed his appreciation to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is Barisan chairman, as well as leaders from MCA, MIC, PPP and Friends of Barisan Nasional.
“This victory belongs to all of us. As advised by the Deputy Prime Minister, we will continue working even harder. Everything we do is for Bangsa Johor,” he said.
Barisan secured 48 seats in the state election, while Pakatan Harapan won eight seats. No other parties managed to win a seat.
In the 2022 state election, Barisan won 40 seats.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party’s strong showing in the Johor election, doubling its representation from four to eight seats, demonstrated that consistent public service would ultimately earn voters’ trust.
He said the results proved that voters had not abandoned MCA.
“The results show that if we continue serving the people with sincerity and perseverance, voters will continue to support us,” he said.
Dr Wee thanked Johor voters for their strong backing of Barisan candidates, describing the support as deeply meaningful.
He said the improved performance, which included larger majorities in MCA-held seats and victories in several constituencies the party had narrowly lost previously, reflected the hard work and dedication of its grassroots machinery and elected representatives.
The results, he added, had given the party renewed confidence.
Dr Wee said he had instructed all MCA assemblymen, both newly elected and returning, to repay voters’ trust by working even harder for their constituents.
“We will not neglect any constituency or any voter who supported us. Even in seats that we lost narrowly, we will continue serving the people and strengthen our efforts,” he said.
He also credited Onn Hafiz’s leadership for Barisan’s convincing victory, adding that MCA would continue to give its full support to the state administration.
Ahmad Zahid congratulated Onn Hafiz on the strong performance and said the coalition would give its full support to the latter to continue leading the Johor government.
“Thank you and congratulations to all 48 state assemblymen who have been elected. With this victory, may Johor continue to prosper and its political stability be maintained.
“We will support Onn Hafiz in administering Johor,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid also thanked Barisan component parties, as well as Friends of Barisan, for their contributions to the coalition’s victory in Johor.
