KUALA LUMPUR: The “Jom Beli Selamat!: Klik Tanpa Risau” campaign aims to strengthen consumer protection in the digital ecosystem, following an alarming increase in online fraud cases, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said the joint initiative also aimed to intensify the consumer education agenda, particularly in cultivating safer online transaction practices and reducing the risk of consumers becoming victims of fraud.

“Online platforms provide a channel to market, promote and sell goods, which should be utilised.

“So it is important to work together so that this ecosystem can help address scam issues, thus ensuring that the people are safer when shopping,” he said during the campaign’s launch yesterday, Bernama reported.

Armizan said losses due to online fraud crimes in the country had exceeded RM4.54bil for the period 2024 to 2025, involving more than 101,000 cases.

He said a total of 35,368 cases with losses of RM1.57bil were recorded in 2024, before almost doubling to 66,204 cases with losses of RM2.97bil in 2025.

For the period January to March this year, he said losses exceeding RM430mil were recorded, showing that the trend is continuing.
