SHAH ALAM: PAS has urged voters, especially youths, to turn out for the Johor state election and support Perikatan Nasional candidates, while calling on its supporters to back Barisan Nasional in seats not contested by the coalition to prevent Pakatan Harapan from winning.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the implementation of Undi18 meant young voters would play a key role in determining Johor's political direction.
"We hope young people will come out in large numbers and vote for Perikatan candidates contesting the 11 state seats represented by PAS," he said in a video posted on Facebook on Thursday (July 2), Sinar Harian reported.
Tuan Ibrahim said Perikatan supporters should vote for Barisan in the 23 state seats where Perikatan is not contesting.
"If Perikatan supporters can back Barisan in the 23 seats, we hope Barisan supporters will support PAS candidates in the 11 seats we are contesting. This is important to ensure Perikatan can play an effective check-and-balance role while preventing Pakatan from winning the Johor election," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim said the unity of Malays and Muslims should be reflected through support at the ballot box.
He urged voters to choose leaders with integrity, good character and a proven record of serving the people, adding that PAS was confident its candidates had undergone a thorough selection process.
He also called on Johoreans living outside the state to return home to fulfil their voting responsibility.
The Johor election will see Barisan and Pakatan fielding 56 candidates each, Perikatan 33, Parti Bersama Malaysia 15, Muda four, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli) one, Parti Sosialis Malaysia one and six independents.
PAS is contesting 11 state seats after identifying them as having the best winning potential.
Polling is scheduled for July 11, with early voting on July
