KUALA LUMPUR: Any talks between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional on cooperation for the Melaka state election will be handled by the coalitions’ respective election committees, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Pakatan chairman said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Pakatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had been tasked with leading the discussions.
“The election committee will discuss it as usual. We have Amirudin and Saifuddin to hold the talks,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Aug 20).
Anwar was responding to a question on whether Pakatan and Barisan had begun discussions on working together for the state polls.
Saifuddin had earlier said he might meet Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to discuss possible cooperation ahead of the election.
He said the meeting could take place after Ab Rauf returned from a working visit to New Zealand.
Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also said the coalition remained open to negotiations on seat allocations, including possible seat swaps, provided the discussions were conducted honestly and sincerely.
