Johor polls: Age is no barrier to serving the community, says Stulang candidate Lim

JOHOR BARU: Perikatan Nasional candidate Lim Chin Eng, 73, does not see his age as a barrier despite being the oldest candidate contesting in the 16th Johor state election.

The Johor Baru Bersatu associate chief said his life experience gives him an advantage over other candidates.

"I want to build a bridge between the experience and ideas of older individuals and the health, energy and creativity of the youth," he told Sinar Harian while on a walkabout in Stulang on Thursday (July 2).

He said the election is not an age contest but about which elected representative can work and bring positive change to the area.

Lim noted that the majority of voters in the Stulang state seat are young people.

His strategy involves engaging them directly and holding open dialogue sessions to ensure two-way communication.

"I want to be a representative who always listens and works together with the younger generation," he said.

Lim is the oldest among 172 candidates contesting 56 state seats in the polls, and previously served as a Johor Baru City Council councillor.

Commenting on campaigning without assistance from PAS machinery, Lim said his campaign has been progressing well so far.

He said a team of 30 workers has been mobilised to engage as many voters of various races as possible within the two-week campaign period.

"At the moment, our machinery strength in Stulang consists of 30 active individuals moving the campaign daily," he said.

"We have not seen a single person from PAS coming to help," he added.

However, he said this would not stop his team from approaching voters to share their offers.

Lim faces a four-cornered fight in the constituency against incumbent Andrew Chen Kah Eng from Pakatan Harapan.

The other candidates are Bong Seng Heng representing Barisan Nasional and Stanley Tan Boon Heng from Parti Bersama Malaysia.
