JOHOR BARU: 50 undocumented immigrant workers were nabbed in operations codenamed Ops Selera, Ops Mahir and Ops Minyak in several locations around Skudai near here.
Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the raids took place on Friday (June 26) starting from 11am.
"Six premises were raided following complaints from the public, our intelligence gathering and monitoring," he said in a statement.
Mohd Rusdi said the premises were eateries, a car body repair and painting workshop, and a shop house.
The shop house had been converted into a coconut milk processing centre that also sold frozen chickens.
"We also detained four locals who are the managers of the raided premises," he added.
Mohd Rusdi said the 50 illegal immigrant workers arrested were aged between 10 and 50 years old.
They comprised 20 Myanmar men, three Indonesian men and five Indonesian women.
He said others were an Indonesian boy, an Indonesian girl, two Vietnamese men, eight Vietnamese women, an Indian national, a Sri Lankan man and a Peruvian man.
Mohd Rusdi said the illegal foreign workers had committed offences under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
They also violated Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
"They are now being placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot in Johor Baru for further action," he said.
