KULAI: Johor Immigration Department detained 69 foreigners for various immigration offences during a series of enforcement operations targeting business premises and residences around here.
Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operations began at about 2.30pm on Friday (Aug 28) and involved enforcement officers from the department’s enforcement division.
He said the raids were carried out based on public information and intelligence, with officers inspecting several locations including an electronics factory, vehicle-washing premises, shoplots believed to have been used as accommodation and food outlets employing foreigners.
“Inspections focused on the foreigners’ immigration status and travel documents, as well as their employment status, the authenticity of their passes and permits, and compliance with conditions imposed on employers.
“During the operations, we also detained two local men, working as human resources officers at the factory,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 29).
Rusdi said those detained comprised five Pakistani men, three Indonesian men, four Indian men, 15 Myanmar men, 13 Nepalese men, seven Bangladeshi men, five Indonesian women and 17 Myanmar women, aged 24 to 45.
He added all 69 foreigners were suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963 and had been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation and further action.
Rusdi also said that seven Form 29 notices, or summonses were issued to witnesses, to assist the department in its investigations.
Rusdi said the department would take stern action without compromise against foreigners who breached the conditions of their passes or stayed illegally in the country, as well as employers and other parties found to have protected, employed or abetted undocumented migrants.
