KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department will work with Thai authorities to obtain detailed information on an alleged syndicate trafficking China nationals from Cambodia to Malaysia.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban (pic) said they were monitoring developments of the case even though they have yet to receive any official report on such activities.

"We will get further information from Thai authorities on this matter,” he said when contacted by Bernama on Saturday (Aug 29), after Thai media outlets reported that Thai authorities arrested two individuals suspected of being masterminds of a ring trafficking China nationals from the Cambodian border to Malaysia through Thailand.

Thai authorities found six China nationals and a Myanmar national who were waiting to be smuggled into Malaysia to work in a scam syndicate during a raid on a resort in Na Mom district in Songkhla province.

Thai authorities also identified four Thai nationals believed to be involved in the ring, including the individual arranging the immigrants’ journey from the Cambodia-Thai border to Hat Yai and onwards through to Malaysia.- Bernama
