MELAKA: Police are investigating two reports linked to the Melaka polls, even before nominations open, says state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.
He said both reports were lodged by DAP leaders on Oct 14 to refute allegations that could damage the party’s reputation.
The first report was about a TikTok content linking DAP to a proposal to reinstate the car-free zone, which could threaten the livelihoods of traders in the affected area, he said.
“The second report concerned allegations that DAP was involved in the operation of a religious school for the Rohingya community here.
“Both cases remain under investigation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said.
On election preparations, DCP Dzulkhairi said about 3,400 police personnel would be deployed to ensure the polls run smoothly.
He said Melaka police also requested an additional 1,500 personnel from other states and Bukit Aman to bolster security throughout the election period.
“We also have a special team that will use closed-circuit television, drones and other equipment to help ensure the smooth conduct of the state election,” he added.
