KULAI: A total of 69 foreigners have been detained in a series of enforcement operations targeting business premises and residences around here.
The detainees, aged between 24 and 45, comprised 22 women and 47 men.
Among them, 32 came from Myanmar, followed by Nepal (13), Indonesia (eight), Bangladesh (seven), Pakistan (five) and India (four).
Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the group was suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act and Immigration Regulations 1963.
They have been sent to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further probe.
He said the operations, which began at 2.30pm on Friday, were carried out at several locations including an electronics factory, car wash premises and eateries.
“The officers checked the foreigners’ immigration status and travel documents, their employment status, whether their passes and permits were genuine, and whether employers were complying with the required conditions.”
He said two local men, who work as human resources officers at a factory, have also been detained to assist investigation.
Rusdi said stern action would be taken against foreigners who breached the conditions of their passes or stayed illegally in the country, as well as those who protected, employed or abetted undocumented migrants.
