KOTA KINABALU: A mother of six was allegedly slashed multiple times by her husband after he spotted her chatting with a male neighbour in Sabah’s northern Kota Marudu district.
The 40-year-old woman suffered 14 slash wounds all over her body, including her neck, and is in critical but stable condition following the attack at their home in Kampung Mangkupa around 9.30am on Thursday (June 25).
Kota Marudu OCPD Supt Somiun Lomidin said they have launched a manhunt for the 50-year-old suspect, an Indonesian, who has been married to the victim, a Malaysian, for 19 years.
He said the incident is believed to have stemmed from apparent jealousy when the victim was talking to her male neighbour from the compound of their house.
Initial police investigations showed that the husband told her not to talk to the neighbour but a heated argument ensued when she denied speaking to him.
"The suspect, believed to be angered, took a parang from the kitchen before attacking the victim," he said in a statement on Friday (June 26).
The victim's niece found her in a pool of blood and a neighbour called the police, he added.
Supt Somiun said the victim told police at the emergency ward of Hospital Kota Marudu that the incident stemmed from the suspect's alleged jealousy.
He said that prior to the incident, the suspect often accused his wife of having an affair with a neighbour, which she denied.
Spt Somiun said the victim will be referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for further treatment, adding that investigations are being carried under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means.
