Yayasan PETRONAS supports planting of 1,000 trees at national Forest Day celebration

KOTA KINABALU: Yayasan PETRONAS has reaffirmed its commitment to ecosystem restoration and community resilience by supporting the planting of 1,000 trees in conjunction with the national-level International Day of Forests 2026 celebration.

Organised by the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry, the event in interior Sook brought together government agencies, local communities, and environmental stakeholders to advance forest conservation and ecosystem restoration efforts.

PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Regional Office General Manager Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab joined other dignitaries in the May 22 tree-planting ceremony.

“Through the One Million Trees initiative, Yayasan PETRONAS demonstrates commitment to advancing environmental stewardship through collaborative efforts that benefit both communities and nature,” she said.

The contribution is part of Yayasan PETRONAS’ One Million Trees initiative, a nationwide effort to support forest restoration and strengthen community resilience through nature-based solutions.

The initiative, which focuses on terrestrial and mangrove conservation and community resilience, is also part of their environment pillar.

The symbolic tree-planting ceremony, led by Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Zulkifli Suara, was witnessed by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor officiated the three-day celebration.
