Education Dept to provide support to family of student who fell from school building


IPOH: The Perak Education Department is providing assistance and support to safeguard the welfare of a family whose child fell from a school building here.

The department said in a statement that it had taken the necessary measures to ensure the family receives the best possible assistance.

Psychosocial support has also been extended to members of the school community affected by the incident.

The department said the student is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and expressed hope for the student’s speedy recovery.

“The student is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. We pray for the student’s speedy recovery and hope the family is granted patience and strength in facing this difficult situation," the statement said.

“The case is under police investigation and the department is fully cooperating with the authorities, while an internal probe is also being conducted into the incident," it added.

“We are concerned about the incident involving a student who fell from a building at a school in the state, as reported by the media,” the statement further noted.

The statement added that the public is urged to allow the authorities to carry out their investigation and to respect the sensitivity of the family as they go through this challenging time.

On Monday (June 22), it was reported that a 13-year-old male student is in critical condition after falling from a building at a secondary school in Ipoh.

Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin had said the police received information about the incident on Monday (June 22) at about 2.50pm.
