PETALING JAYA: Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) is hoping to conclude discussions on seats for the Johor state elections soon.
“We are discussing the matter with the relevant parties. “We are trying to settle it today, if possible,” its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah told The Star on Tuesday (June 23).
Asked whether the discussion would be held with potential partners, Saifuddin said the party believes in coalition and cooperation.
“We believe in coalition and cooperation. So, yes,” he said.
Saifuddin explained that the party, led by Opposition leader and Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, has written to join Perikatan Nasional.
“We conducted our Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on June 20 where we decided on a new name, that is Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan Negara) and elected a new leadership. Now awaiting confirmation from the Registrar of Societies (ROS). After the EGM, we wrote to Perikatan applying to be a component party. We wrote as Parti Cinta Malaysia because we are awaiting the confirmation from ROS and informed that we are now named Wawasan Negara,” he explained.
On Monday, Perikatan accepted both Parti Cinta Malaysia and Pejuang into its fold.
Perikatan is expected to hold a meeting on seats this evening.
When asked whether Wawasan would be part of the meeting, Perikatan information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa replied with “no.”
Hamzah officially announced the formation of Wawasan during the Reset Convention in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, on June 13, after being expelled from Bersatu in February.
Parti Cinta Malaysia was rebranded as Wawasan.
