PENGERANG: Firefighters are battling a grass fire that has spread across 29ha along the Punggai-Sebana Cove bypass road, or the Punggai Bypass Highway, here.
A Johor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a distress call came in at 11.25am on Monday (Aug 24).
"Firefighters from the Sebana Cove and Punggai stations have been dispatched to the scene.
"The first fire engine arrived at 11.33am, eight minutes after the call was received.
"Upon arrival, firefighters found that the blaze had spread across a 29ha area of lalang, or tall grass," the spokesman said.
The teams used approximately 100m hoses with two nozzles each connected to their respective engines to contain the blaze.
At the time of writing, the operation remained active, with no casualties reported.
The area was earlier hit by a massive bush fire extending over 150ha in March.
