JOHOR BARU: All school administrators must implement the Education Ministry’s enhanced Safe School Management Guidelines and Student Protection Policy without compromise following several recent incidents involving students falling from school buildings, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister added that the ministry had taken drastic measures to strengthen safety monitoring at schools, stressing that student safety must remain a top priority.

“These school safety guidelines are mandatory and must be implemented without compromise by all school administrators,” she told reporters after attending the launch of the Furniture and Kalvi Madani Initiative at SJK(T) Jalan Yahya Awal here on Tuesday (June 23).

Fadhlina said that each incident involving students had its own circumstances and background, but the ministry was committed to ensuring that safety-related issues continued to receive the utmost attention.

She urged school administrators to strengthen safety measures on campus, while calling on the wider school community to help monitor and reinforce safety awareness among students on a daily basis.

Fadhlina also said the ministry was giving serious attention to students’ mental health through regular mental health screening programmes and by strengthening the role of school counsellors.

“Whenever there are early signs of emotional or mental health issues, school counsellors must intervene immediately,” she said, adding that parents also had an important role to play in working closely with schools to monitor their children’s emotional well-being and ensure timely intervention when necessary.
