JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional is expected to announce its candidate line-up for the Johor state election on Wednesday (June 24) morning.
Johor MCA deputy chairman Ling Tian Soon said the candidates for all 56 seats would be announced at 10.30am at the state Umno liaison committee office here in the presence of Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“To my knowledge, the candidates will represent Barisan component parties like before.
“However, politics is fluid, things can easily change in 24 hours. It will all depend on the final announcement,” he told reporters at Wisma Tiong-Hua on Tuesday (June 23).
The caretaker state health and environment committee chairman and incumbent Yong Peng assemblyman had earlier presented cheques to non-governmental organisations on behalf of the Johor government.
Asked whether he would be defending the Yong Peng seat, Ling said he hoped to be fielded as the candidate as he has put in a lot of effort and time to service the constituency for years.
He added that Yong Peng is a unique state seat as it is a Chinese-majority area.
In the 2022 Johor polls, Barisan won 40 seats - 33 won by Umno, four by MCA while MIC secured three seats.
Johor will go to the polls on July 11, with nomination date set for Saturday (June 27).
