Brother's alleged money demands believed to have led to fatal attack

KUALA TERENGGANU: Dissatisfaction with his elder brother, who allegedly frequently asked their parents for money, is believed to have led a mentally challenged man to attack and beat his brother to death in Bukit Payong here on Saturday (Oct 3), police said.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said police received information about a fight at a family home in Kampung Banggol Tasekat at about 10.55am.

He said initial investigations found that the 43-year-old victim, the suspect's elder brother, died after being allegedly beaten with a blunt object, while the suspect's 36-year-old sister was also injured when she tried to stop the attack.

"The 42-year-old suspect, who is a person with a mental disability, was arrested by police by the roadside in Bandar Bukit Payong shortly after the incident.

"He was believed to be dissatisfied with his brother, who has a drug-related record and allegedly frequently asked the family for money," he told a press conference at the Terengganu police contingent headquarters here on Sunday (Oct 4).

He said the suspect's sister was receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital after suffering a wound to the back of her head, a fractured right thumb and a minor injury to her spleen.

Mohd Khairi said the suspect was remanded today to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – Bernama
