Perikatan denies viral statement on state polls suspension

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has dismissed a statement circulated on social media claiming that the coalition would not contest the upcoming Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka state elections, as fake.

The purported statement further claimed that any use of the Perikatan logo and flag in the three state polls would not be allowed, and that the coalition had suspended its state liaison committees in the three states pending new appointments by the top leadership.

Bearing Perikatan's logo and the name of secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, the document was initially posted on the Facebook page of Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, better known as Dr Sam, on Monday.

Earlier, Ahmad Samsuri said the coalition had agreed to admit Parti Cinta Malaysia (also known as Wawasan) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) during a two-hour emergency meeting on Monday (June 22) night.

Dr Sam, who is also a PAS vice-president, said the agenda of the meeting held from 9.30pm to 11.30pm at the PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut here was focused on two issues - namely the admission of the two parties into the coalition and preparations for the Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections.
