PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has submitted a notice to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s Office to confirm the reappointment of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Opposition leader.

Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said the chief whip submitted the notification on June 18, following a meeting with 62 MPs held a day earlier.

"The decision was made in a meeting of the MPs on June 17," he said when contacted on Saturday (June 20).

Saifuddin said Hamzah's reappointment was supported by all of Pas' 43 MPs and 19 MPs aligned with Hamzah's Parti Wawasan Negara

The Dewan Rakyat's second meeting of the fifth session will begin this Monday, June 22. It will run for 16 days until July 16.

According to the Parliament website, Hamzah will return to the conventional slot reserved for the opposition leader.

The former Bersatu deputy president will sit next to Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Moktar, with PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (Marang MP) on his left.

Meanwhile, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Pagoh MP, has moved to Block E, where he will sit beside Putrajaya MP Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.
