Three family members killed in pre-dawn Ipoh house fire

IPOH: Three family members, including an 18-year-old teenager and his grandparents, lost their lives in a pre-dawn fire that engulfed a double-storey terrace house in Taman Desa Tambun here on Sunday (Sept 20).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said emergency responders were alerted to the blaze at Persiaran Desa Tambun 4 at around 4.10am.

The deceased have been identified as Raja Ahmad Raja Ali, 70, his wife Zaitun Mohamed, 64, and their grandson, Nik Abdurrahim Azimin Harith Helal, 18.

"The elderly couple's 47-year-old son, Raja Ikhwan Hadi Raja Ahmad, who was sleeping in the porch area at the time, escaped unharmed," Sayani said in a statement on Sunday.

"Firefighters found the elderly man inside a ground-floor bathroom, while his wife and grandson were discovered on the upper floor of the residence."

Sayani added that while six people reside in the home, two family members were away when the fire broke out.

The firefighting operation concluded at approximately 8.00am, and the remains of the victims have been handed over to the police for post-mortem examination and further action.
