THE Masjid India area in Kuala Lumpur has long been a part of the Indian community’s history and culture, having hosted annual Deepavali celebration for the past 40 years.

Makkal Osai reported MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan saying that celebrations were started by him and his friend in 1986.

The area’s business community and traders embody the spirit of Deepavali for many Indians, making it the first place they turn to in the run-up to the festival, he said.

Saravanan hoped such cultural elements are not given up or forgotten.

Under the pretext of conducting a pooja, he took the 30-year-old woman to Puducherry and attempted to sleep with her.

The woman managed to escape and return to her home in Chennai.

The police are looking for the man.
