A WOMAN travelling on a long-distance train in China was left with a bloodied face after a mobile phone fell from an upper berth and struck her eye, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Fortunately, medical examinations found no serious damage to the woman’s eye.

The owner of the phone agreed to pay a one-off compensation of 23,000 yuan (RM14,000) to cover the woman’s medical expenses.

The incident came to light after the victim posted a video of her ordeal on social media.

Railway customer service staff reportedly said that passengers were responsible for injuries caused by the improper handling of their personal belongings.

However, if negligence by train staff had contributed to the incident, the railway operator would be required to bear the corresponding liability.

> Veteran Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang, who has been in the entertainment industry for 53 years, was presented with the World Outstanding Chinese Award, China Press reported.

He received the prize from Jackie Chan and Alan Tam during the 19th World Outstanding Chinese Award ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Oct 31.

Tsang, who has received numerous accolades for his work in television and film, said the honour was different from awards recognising individual performances or productions such as the Golden Horse Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards.

This award was particularly special as it acknowledged decades of dedication and celebrated his entire body of work, he said.

From martial arts stuntman and actor to director, producer, TV host, emcee and senior executive of a TV station, Tsang has taken on many roles in show business.

Reflecting on his journey, he said he had worked his way up step by step, adding that the recognition brought not only joy but also a sense of responsibility.
