PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has initiated preliminary talks with other political parties, including the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), to explore new alliances for the upcoming general election, party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Saturday (Sept 19).
Speaking at Bersatu's 10th anniversary celebration at the Petaling Jaya City Council Civic Hall, Muhyiddin stated that Bersatu cannot run solo and requires coalition partners that respect its core principles, particularly integrity, anti-kleptocracy, and constitutional rights, reported Sinar Harian.
He noted that initial responses regarding potential alignments have been positive and further details will be finalised.
Addressing the party's current rift with PAS, Muhyiddin clarified that the decision to suspend cooperation was made by PAS rather than Bersatu.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to issue a prompt decision regarding Bersatu's official complaint against the current Perikatan Nasional leadership.
The complaint, lodged on Aug 11, outlines eight alleged violations by Perikatan leadership, including repeated exclusions of Bersatu from Perikatan Supreme Council meetings and disputes over its membership status within the coalition.
Secretary-General Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has already met with the RoS to provide full clarification.
