KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2026 attracted about 20,000 participants.
The event, which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, featured 3km and 5km runs around the Kuala Lumpur city centre, starting outside the PETRONAS Twin Towers.
“Thank you to all Malaysians, young and old, men and women, who are motivated to take care of their health and our beloved country.
“Let’s run in sarongs together,” Anwar told the cheering crowd before flagging off the run.
The run began with a spirited march by a group of participants carrying a huge Jalur Gemilang above their heads, followed by the rest of the runners.
Participants were required to wear at least one piece of sarong during the run.
Also at the launch were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin also led the pledge before the run began.
Besides the run, the event featured stalls offering local food and products, as well as musical and cultural performances.
Roads around the PETRONAS Twin Towers and Bukit Bintang were closed in conjunction with the event.
