KUALA LUMPUR: National development should not be measured solely by the grandeur of skyscrapers, technological advancements or an influx of investments, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said it must be anchored in the development of individuals who are civilised, possess good character and hold noble human values.
In this regard, Anwar said efforts to build a great nation must begin with the establishment of happy family institutions.
"Families are the foundation of society and pillar of national strength, and as such, the concept of 'Menggapai di Langit, Mengakar di Bumi' (Reaching for the sky, Rooted in Ground) should serve as a guiding principle in educating the younger generation to master technology and new knowledge without neglecting values, manners, compassion and noble character.
"I am confident that efforts to build a great nation must begin with building happy families, because it is from the family institution that generations who will determine the face and future of the nation emerge," he said in a Facebook post Saturday (Nov 7).
The Prime Minister said the Madani government would continue to strengthen policies and initiatives prioritising family well-being, including the welfare of mothers and children, childcare facilities, support for persons with disabilities (PwDs) and recognition of the role of caregivers.
Earlier, Anwar officiated the National Family Month 2026 celebration in Shah Alam, Selangor, which was also attended by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
At the same time, the Prime Minister also commended Nancy and her ministry for successfully organising the celebration and their steadfast commitment to championing women's well-being and strengthening the family institution as a cornerstone of societal and national development. - Bernama
