Anwar extends Deepavali greetings to Malaysians celebrating Festival of Lights

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended Deepavali greetings to Malaysians celebrating the Festival of Lights, describing it as a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

He said the celebration should be a medium to strengthen unity, bridge the gap between races and instil the values of charity and concern for those in need.

"In a plural society that perpetuates diversity of cultures and traditions, the value of mutual respect, understanding and accepting differences must be continually strengthened," he said in a social media post on Saturday (Nov 7).

"May this Deepavali inject a renewed spirit to build a more open, pure and progressive thinking, at once uplifting the dignity of the people and strengthening the harmony of the country.

"Happy Deepavali to all the communities celebrating. May the light of Deepavali continue to illuminate your life with happiness, peace and prosperity," he said.
