Anwar tells AG to seek audience with King over Najib's conditional pardon

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to immediately seek an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to clarify issues surrounding the implementation of the conditional pardon order involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The Prime Minister said the move was necessary to explain the legal constraints concerning the remainder of Najib’s prison sentence in the SRC International case, as well as its implications for another case involving him, namely the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

“I have asked the Attorney General to immediately seek an audience with His Majesty, seek his pardon and explain why the decision is applicable to the SRC case, but there are issues because it involves a second case, namely the 1MDB case.

“Some interpret it as running from 2028, while others say the court did not grant bail. That is why time is needed for the judiciary to determine the matter conclusively, and this is not within my jurisdiction,” he said after launching the 2026 National Family Month celebration here Saturday (Nov 7).

Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife and Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; her deputy Lim Hui Ying; and Selangor women’s development and social welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari at the Selangor International Trade Centre here. - Bernama
