Deepavali: Traffic flow smooth on major highways tonight, says LLM

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on most major highways nationwide was reported to have returned to normal on Saturday (Nov 7) after congestion in the morning and afternoon, when vehicle numbers increased as people began travelling to their hometowns for Deepavali on Sunday (Nov 8).

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesperson said traffic volume began to decline and conditions eased from 8pm, although congestion remained at several locations.

On the northbound North-South Expressway (PLUS), traffic was slow from Juru towards Permatang Pauh, while southbound traffic was slow from Senawang to Pedas Linggi.

"Traffic towards the East Coast, particularly from Gombak to Lentang, which had been severely congested since this morning, has returned to normal. Monitoring also found no new build-up of vehicles from main routes such as the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

"During the day, congestion was reported on almost the entire highway network, including on PLUS from Gopeng to Simpang Pulai and Bandar Baharu to Jawi northbound, as well as from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to Kajang and Nilai to Senawang southbound," the spokesperson told Bernama Saturday.

The spokesperson also advised those planning to travel late tonight to get enough rest before setting off, ensure they have sufficient balance on their Touch 'n Go cards and stop at rest and service areas (R&R) if they feel sleepy to avoid mishaps.

The public can obtain the latest traffic information through the 24-hour hotline at 1800-88-7752 and on the X platforms @plustrafik and @llmtrafik. - Bernama
