KUALA LUMPUR: About 20,000 people took part in this year's Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2026 on Saturday (Sept 19), which was flagged off by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The participants completed either a 3km or 5km run around the city centre, starting outside the Petronas Twin Towers.
"Thank you to all Malaysian citizens, young and old, men and women, who are motivated to take care of their health and our beloved country.
"Let us run in sarongs together," Anwar told the enthusiastic crowd while officiating the run.
The event began with a group of participants carrying a long Jalur Gemilang above their heads, followed by the other runners.
Participants were required to wear at least one sarong item during the run.
Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin led the pledge before the run began.
Also in attendance at the launch were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin also served as the head pledge reader before the run started.
The event also featured stalls selling local food and products, as well as music and cultural performances.
Roads around the Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC and Bukit Bintang were closed in conjunction with the event.
