Jasin MP suffers minor injuries in early morning crash

MELAKA: Jasin MP Zulkifli Ismail was involved in a road accident along the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway in Alor Gajah here on Saturday (June 20).

Alor Gajah OCPD Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the 5.20am incident left Zulkifli, who is also the Melaka PAS commissioner, with minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle driven by Zulkifli was travelling from the Jelatang traffic light junction when a Perodua Axia, heading from Alor Gajah towards Gadek, entered the intersection, resulting in a collision.

"As a result of the accident, the Jasin MP suffered minor cuts on both hands while his wife, who was seated in the front passenger seat, complained of chest pain," Supt Ahmad said on Saturday (June 20).

He added that the Axia driver suffered fractured ribs and a fractured pelvis and is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.

"Three other passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and are undergoing further treatment," he said.

All those involved in the accident were taken to Hospital Alor Gajah and Hospital Melaka for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving resulting in an accident.
