MELAKA: Six people, including a father and his two children, were injured in a five-vehicle pile-up on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway near the Bertam Malim apartments here.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comn Christopher Patit said the incident occurred at 11.50pm on Friday (May 1).
He said a 45-year-old man was driving first vehicle with his two children, aged 15 and 17, as passengers.
He said the car, travelling from Cheng, went out of control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a second car in the middle lane heading towards Cheng.
The crash caused the second car to spin, which then crashed into two other vehicles on the centre and right lanes.
Christopher added that a fourth car in the left lane then collided with the second car, which had been shunted into the path of fifth car following the initial impact with the first car.
He said the victims sustained various injuries, including head trauma, a fractured left arm and injuries to the abdomen, shoulders and face, as well as chest pains and injury to the hand.
The driver of the fourth car, a 26-year-old woman, escaped the ordeal unhurt.
All victims were sent to the Melaka Hospital for treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are currently seeking witnesses and CCTV or dashcam footage to assist in the investigation. – Bernama
