Anwar denies cancelling 2026 Johor Felda Settlers’ Day

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied ordering the cancellation of the 2026 Johor Felda Settlers’ Day celebration in Kluang earlier this month.

"Who cancelled the event? Cancelled where? I did not give any such instructions," said Anwar, in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) during the Prime Minister's Question Time on Tuesday (June 30).

Hamzah wanted to know why the federal government decided to cancel this year's Johor Felda Settlers' Day celebration.

Anwar said the only directive issued was that no event should use federal government machinery during an election campaign period.

"That instruction applies to everyone. So regarding the Settlers' Day, it was not prohibited

"There is also no prohibition for a Mentri Besar to enter Felda areas to organise their own programme," Anwar said.

On June 18, a planned celebration to honour Felda settlers in Johor was cancelled following a decision by the Federal Government.

Caretaker agriculture, agro-based industry and rural development committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said he was disappointed with the decision to cancel the Johor Felda Settlers' Day celebration.
