PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed his condolences over the passing of veteran MCA leader and former Bandar assemblyman Datuk Tok Teng Sai.
The MCA president described Tok’s passing as a great loss and said his contributions to education, public service and the community would be remembered.
“Tok dedicated his life to education, public service and business, always guided by a simple belief, which is to serve the people.
“He never sought recognition or praise, but earned the respect of many through his actions and dedication.
“His passing is a great loss. His legacy and contributions will be remembered forever.
“My condolences to his family and loved ones. May they be granted strength and peace as they navigate this difficult time,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Tok was a prominent figure in Terengganu politics during the 1970s and 1980s. He served as a Kuala Terengganu City Council member in 1973 and was elected as the Bandar assemblyman in 1978, serving three consecutive terms.
He also served for many years as a member of the Terengganu state executive council.
From 1979 to 1992, he served five consecutive terms as chairman of the Terengganu MCA state liaison committee.
Dr Wee said that throughout Tok’s political career, he remained committed to the Chinese community and the well-being of people from all walks of life.
He added that Tok also supported the establishment of hawker centres and food courts in central Kuala Terengganu, helping to create better livelihoods for small traders.
After leaving politics, Tok ventured into business and played an active role in developing the swiftlet bird’s nest industry, helping industry players navigate various challenges.
“Although his role changed, his commitment to serving the community remained the same,” said Dr Wee.
