186 illegal immigrants detained in Op Kutip


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 186 illegal immigrants were detained in an integrated Op Kutip operation conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department around the Pudu Market area here shortly after midnight.

The department said in a statement today that those detained comprised 149 men and 37 women for offences under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act for not possessing valid identification documents.

Those detained in the operation, which began at 12.05am, included nationals of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Pakistan and China, and were taken to the immigration office for further action.

"The operation involved 137 officers and personnel from various agencies, including the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the National Registration Department and support teams from the Immigration Department in Putrajaya and Selangor," the statement said. - Bernama
