AN 18-year-old school-leaver from Kuala Krai, Kelantan, has willingly sacrificed his dream of pursuing a university degree to care for his ailing parents, Harian Metro reported.
Amir Hamzah Mohd Bakri, 18, said he could not bear to leave his family, as both his parents suffer from serious health conditions and require daily support.
Despite receiving offers from Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, he chose to continue his studies in Form Six at a nearby school to care for his parents.
“My father, Mohd Bakri Muhamad Nor, 55, suffers from a blocked heart and works as a rubber tapper to support us while my mother, Norizan Nodin, 54, faces various health complications, like diabetes.
“My mother has only recently recovered from a stroke, her vision has grown increasingly blurry over the past three years, and she is unable to stand for long periods,” he told the daily.
Amir said he now travels 42km by motorcycle each day to attend his classes.
> A giant uniquely-layered boulder has become a landmark for residents of Kampung Miku Pindah at Rembau, Negri Sembilan, as its origins remain unanswered over the last 70 years, Kosmo! reported.
Local resident Mohd Zaharin Ahmad, 70, said the boulder has stood in the same spot since at least 1948, when families from nearby Kampung Miku Lama were relocated.
He said the boulder, measuring about 5m-high and 10m-long, has now become a core identity of the village.
“The rock has several overlapping layers and people used to say there were four layers but now only three layers are visible,” he told the daily.
He said the boulder’s unknown origin has inspired local folklore.
Another resident, Mezuar Yusof, 65, said the boulder possesses a uniqueness that is difficult to find elsewhere with its massive rocks looking like they were deliberately stacked.
“We are not experts who can determine its origins, but if a study were conducted, perhaps the true history of this rock could be uncovered,” he said.
