Thunderstorms and heavy rain to hit Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds for Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, effective until 9am on Friday (June 19).

In Sarawak, the severe weather is expected to affect Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu (Bintulu and Sebauh), Miri and Limbang.

For Sabah, the weather warning covers Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat (Putatan).

The alert also encompasses the entire Federal Territory of Labuan.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 6.00am on Friday.
