PETALING JAYA: About half the country is forecasted to be hit with thunderstorms and heavy rain until this evening, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The department said the entire state of both Perak and Selangor, along with the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, are expected to be inundated with rainy weather until 6pm on Sunday (June 14), in a statement posted on social media at 2.25pm on Sunday
Similar weather conditions are also expected to strike Kedah (Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu), Penang (North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai, and South Seberang Perai), and Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman) in the north of the peninsula during the same period.
The states of Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin), Negri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, and Rembau), and Johor (Kluang, Mersing, and Kota Tinggi) are also forecasted to see adverse weather conditions until 6pm.
East Malaysians are also not safe from the rain, with several districts of Sarawak, namely Julau (Sarikei), Sibu and Selangau (Sibu), Matu (Mukah), Tatau (Bintulu), Telang Usan (Miri), and Lawas (Limbang), also experiencing similar conditions.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, affected areas will include the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan), the entire West Coast, Tawau (Tawau, Kunak, and Lahad Datu), and Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, and Sandakan).
MetMalaysia’s warning states that the thunderstorms are expected to bring rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, which is expected to persist for more than one hour during this period.
