CHINESE temples in Kulai, Johor, have become the target of thieves after CCTV footage showed two temples targeted by break-ins in just over a week, reported Sin Chew Daily.
On May 30, thieves cut through the locks at the Ban San Temple in Taman Kulai and made away with RM1,000 from the donation box.
A week later, on June 8, another break-in took place at the Hong Sen Tai Tee Temple at Kam- pung Baru Sengkang at around 3am.
CCTV footage showed a man wearing a baseball cap, a mask and a long-sleeved shirt breaking into the temple using a saw.
According to the temple chairman, the burglar cut through three locks on the temple’s main gate and disabled the alarm system after it was triggered.
He then broke four other locks on the temple’s donation box before making away with around RM2,000.
The chairman said they filed a police report and investigations were underway.
He thanked residents of Kampung Baru Sengkang for volunteering their time to repair the damaged temple gate after hearing about the incident.
According to him, the string of thefts has caused security concerns, and he hoped the police could solve the case soon.
