Ayob Khan receives heartfelt gesture from AKPS chief after retirement ceremony


KUALA LUMPUR: It was an emotional farewell for outgoing Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay as Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain embraced the veteran officer during his retirement ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol).

Comm Mohd Shuhaily was seen on Sunday (July 26) waiting at the main entrance of Pulapol until the ceremonial beating the retreat parade marking Ayob Khan's retirement concluded.

After Ayob Khan posed for photographs with members of the Special Action Unit (UTK), Comm Mohd Shuhaily approached him and shared a heartfelt embrace.

The emotional moment saw both senior officers visibly moved, reflecting their close professional bond forged over years of service in the police force.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily later embraced Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail before greeting other senior police officers in attendance.

Following the ceremony, Comm Mohd Shuhaily, riding a high-powered motorcycle, escorted Ayob Khan's convoy as it departed Pulapol for the final time.

Earlier, during the ceremony which began at 2pm, Special Branch director Comm Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus was announced as acting Deputy IGP.

Ayob Khan, who officially begins his retirement on Monday, leaves the force after nearly 35 years of service.

The Kota Setar, Kedah native held several key positions throughout his distinguished career, including Counter-Terrorism Division (E8) head, Johor police chief, Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director at Bukit Aman.

Widely regarded as one of the country's most prominent anti-crime and counter-terrorism officers, Ayob Khan earned a reputation for his uncompromising stance against organised crime, corruption and abuse of power during his decades of service.
