Klang cops nab man who stole 70 gold bars from deliveryman

KLANG: Police have nabbed a man who stole 70 gold bars worth about RM150,000 from a jewellery deliveryman and recovered all stolen items.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Lim Jit Huey said police arrested the 57-year-old local man at about 6.30pm on Wednesday (Sept 9) at a hotel in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

He said the incident took place at about 10pm on Tuesday (Sept 8) at a homestay the suspect rented in Taman Sri Andalas.

"The 28-year-old complainant, who works as a jewellery deliveryman, was invited by the suspect to the homestay for a gold transaction.

"When the complainant handed over the 70 gold bars for inspection, the suspect took them into a room and fled through the back of the house," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 11).

ACP Lim said police recovered all 70 gold bars during the arrest.

He said the suspect, who has a record of seven previous crimes, was remanded for four days from Sept 10 to 13.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which carries a maximum 10-year jail term and a fine upon conviction.

ACP Lim advised the public to be cautious of similar tactics and to remain vigilant when conducting transactions involving valuable items.

Those with information can contact the South Klang police headquarters at 03-3376 2222 or any nearby police station.
