German hiker falls into hole, dies on Cameron Highlands jungle trail


KUANTAN: A German tourist has died after falling into a hole while hiking at Jungle Trail 10 in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands.

A Pahang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the 58-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said they received an emergency call about the incident at 12.04pm and a team of 16 personnel from the Cameron Highlands fire station was dispatched.

"The team arrived at the foothill at 12.35pm and reached the scene about 45 minutes later, after hiking for about 7km. The victim had fallen into a hole believed to be a former waterway," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 11).

He said the victim was hiking with his 57-year-old partner at the time of the incident, who is reported to be safe. – Bernama
