A FORMER high-ranking policewoman in Tamil Nadu is spending her retirement conducting free classes for students, Makkal Osai reported.
Seema Aggarwal, who is a native of Rajasthan state, had served 36 years in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu before retiring in June, having held various posts such as Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General of Police for Railways and Vigilance.
In 2014, she received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and last year she was bestowed the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
During the final years of her service with the police force, Seema began taking an interest in education.
She organised English and maths classes for primary and middle school students from state-run schools near her residence.
She was lauded for helping them, besides providing free stationery for the poorer ones.
This new chapter of her life as a teacher and surrogate mother for these children has made life after retirement fulfilling, said Seema, who holds a degree in electrical engineering.
A local newspaper in Tamil Nadu featured her story, garnering praise for her efforts.
