Jalan Buli Sim-Sim, hiking trail temporarily closed due to landslide

SANDAKAN: Jalan Buli Sim-Sim from the temple towards Taman Grandview here has been temporarily closed from Sunday (Sept 20) to next Saturday due to a 150m landslide in the Bukit Sim-Sim area on Saturday.

Sandakan district disaster management committee chairman Datuk Walter Kenson said it was a precautionary measure for public safety even though the landslide that happened at 9.05pm did not affect the road.

"The hiking trail in the hill area is also closed based on observation that the landslide area requires attention in terms of safety, especially if there's continuous rain with the potential of causing soil movement," he said in a statement here.

Walter, who is Sandakan Municipal Council president said the Public Works Department's Slope Branch will continue to monitor the condition of the slop to identify any movement or change to soil structure. - Bernama
