TWENTY solar-powered street lights will brighten an accident-prone stretch in Tapah, funded through Datuk Seri M. Saravanan’s parliamentary allocation, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The Tapah MP made the announcement at an event at the Mahatma Gandhi Hall in his constituency.
The 4km-stretch from Changkat Petai to Penjara Tapah has been an accident hotspot because of poor lighting.
He said excuses such as a lack of funds or the three-year timeframe needed to complete the project were unacceptable while accidents continued along the road.
The solar-powered lights will be part of a three-year plan to revitalise and beautify Tapah, he said.
Saravanan, who is also MIC deputy president, said he would continue helping the constituency directly and supporting NGOs running programmes for residents.
Initiatives through his constituency office include providing sewing machines, farming equipment, grass-cutting machines, sugarcane juicers and stalls to small entrepreneurs.
