LIKE many children of Asian mothers, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh (pic) still cannot escape her mum’s nagging, although she is now an international star.

“Just a few days ago, my mum kept saying: ‘Why are you so thin? Why are you working so hard?’” the Oscar-winning actress quipped during an interview with Sin Chew Daily.

But Yeoh said she understands those are simply her mother’s way of expressing love.

The Ipoh-born star was promoting her latest Chinese-language film, It’s My Time, which hit local cinemas on Thursday.

She plays a master of the Rubik’s Cube named Zhao Yanhong.

Chinese actor Bai Ke plays Yeoh’s son, whose relationship with his mother is defined by her constant nagging and disagreements with his wife over parenting.

“Asian parents especially like to express their love by nagging.

“Zhao Yanhong is always telling her son he’s not capable enough or that he lacks confidence,” she said, noting that in many Eastern families, love is deeply hidden.

> A doctor in China has become an Internet sensation for having the name Ye Lvsu, which means “chlorophyll” in Chinese, reported China Press.

Amused netizens joked that it is a perfect name for the doctor working at a hospital in Chongqing, Sichuan province.

“The name sounds professional the moment you hear it,” one netizen quipped.

The online buzz began after a social media user shared the doctor’s profile from the hospital’s official website.

It stated that he is a deputy chief physician at the Occupational Diseases and Toxicology Department.

Having graduated from China Medical University, he has spent 17 years working in the field.
