PM Anwar makes time to mingle with free helmet recipients at SIC

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday (Nov 1) took the time to mingle with several recipients of free helmets while attending the 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (GP) at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

"It was delightful to chat and check in with some of the recipients of free helmets through the Ministry of Transport’s initiative driven by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

"My advice is to make sure these helmets are worn and securely strapped. Leave home safely, return safely. A new helmet, a new spirit!” he said in a post on X.

Anwar said that through Budget 2026, a total of 70,000 units of helmets were allocated to be distributed to the public as an effort to protect motorcycle riders and reduce the risk of serious injuries.

The free helmet exchange initiative by JPJ aims to enhance motorcycle rider safety by replacing old or non-standard helmets with new ones to reduce the risk of accident-related injuries. - Bernama
